DaygoErm
I like that idea Ermer. Very similar to the fencing mask I'm going to try this week when it arrives. If you add a small plastic bar, glued to the mesh to support the eyes--might just work! It'll be cooler for sure! BrieKalan2
For those working on the Jawa initiative, make sure you sign up for this AP: I'll be bringing my sewing machine and serger, plus paints etc for weathering. We can crank out a BUNCH of jawas that day. If you have a sewing machine, bring it--I'll teach anyone how to use their machines. I won't be sewing for everyone, but I can help here and there...I have costumes to work on too!

hsmart
Got monk's cloth 50% off today, speaker mesh, mask, eye lights, bandoliers, gloves. Off to a good start. Need boots, some black fabric to line the hood. Going to see how well coax cable will work for the hood opening. Sure I have some of that out in the garage. This is going to be fun! Eagleskull
Starting to weather my robes but would anyone have a pattern or a good link tutorial to make the Ion Blaster holster/bandoleer?
PunkRocketScience
Don't know of a tutorial or pattern... Wendy just folded the leather over the blaster and traced around it. Then bottom cap was just a circle.
BrieKalan2
There's a few threads here and there on the holster: https://www.thedentedhelmet.com/forums/threads/jawa-ion-blaster.16223/ and a host of reference images: https://www.google.com/search?q=jawa+blaster+holster&rlz=1C1GGRV_enUS763US763&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwja8e_BqZ7aAhXrrFQKHTTFC2gQsAQIOA&biw=1280&bih=590&dpr=1.5#imgrc=_ I plan on making a holster for my blaster also, I have a hide of leather I bought for it, will be happy to share details when I get that far. Gaanon
Fingers crossed. Let’s see how good I did at prep...I trimmed the edges of my monks cloth straight, sewed back a few rows to prevent fraying, and removed the extra strands. Now it’s in the wash. I was looking up monks cloth on YouTube and saw something on prepping it for some Swedish neddlecraft and figured the prep couldn’t hurt. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Is it okay to just throw the whole thing into the wash first? Then dye it, finally cutting it? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Yes! It is highly recommended to wash it as hot as possible first to prevent shrinking after it is dyed and cut. Just don't use fabric softener sheets or the dye won't take as well.

Gaanon
Was and dry again post dye sonthat the excess is washed out. Just restarted the wash on hot. That stitching on the ends did the trick! No fraying that I can see. I’ll do the after dye wash at the laundromat to keep the wife from killing me. And to keep my work clothes from changing colors!Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
BrieKalan2
AWESOME!! If I get a chance on Sunday, I'm going to work on a holster bandolier for the new blaster, plus finish the last few assembly items to submit the new version.
Gaanon
Well, I learned something very important today gentlemen. It's not the cold, but the heat that causes shrinkage. Holy cow that fabric shrunk right up! And I think there was enough leftover cotton in the lint trap to spin into yarn and knit a new sweater! Next step dye. I've got 2 bottles dark brown and one tangerine Rit dye, 10 yards of cloth (before shrinking) and salt. My plan is to use about a 30gal container, fill with hot water, all three bottles and 3cups salt. Does that sound about right? Too much? Not enough?
BrieKalan2
Yes. That’s pretty much it! More salt never hurts. And hot hot hot water
DaygoErm
How long do you let it sit in water? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk The general rule is 20-30 minutes. But you don’t just let it sit. You have to agitate and stir the fabric so that it soaked up the dye. If you don’t it’ll wind up looking very blotchy like tie dye.
