Hi guys! My names Jeremiah, currently living in Oceanside. I’m a complete noob and I’m going to try and start my first clone trooper build, specifically a clone commander build with the pauldron and Kama. I just don’t know where to start. I’ve looked into imperial surplus and his plastic kits but I’ve also seen fiberglass kits around. Which material is better to work with? Also if there are any other vendors I could look into, what have you guys tried?

Hi Jeremiah!

Welcome to the ISG forums!

I have the Imperial Surplus shoretrooper and love it.  Most of the stormtroopers and clones I have seen are plastic, not fiberglass.  Fiberglass tends to be much heavier, but also more durable.  In my opinion, plastic is also easier to work with.  I'm currently (very slowly) working on a clone Kashyyyk scout.  I'm in Oceanside as well, and the next armor party will be at my house on 2/1.  I'd be happy to show you the kit and let you get an idea of how the plastic is to work with.

For clones, I'd recommend checking out the Clone Trooper Detachment forums for the most up to date information:  http://501stclonetroopers.com/

There are about a bajillion differt clone variants.  Here is a link to the CRL (costume reference library) list of those that have been approved previously in the 501st:

Locally we don't have all that many clones, so it is great that we have someone interested in doing one!

Hey Jeremiah!

I have Animated Captain Rex phase 2. The kit is from Imperial Surplus and I highly recommend it. Which clone commander are you wanting to build? Movie or Animated version?

Ralph

I’m going to try and go for Commander Vill, movie realistic!

I can take a day off of work to come by! It’d be very helpful to see your work.
