  1. Gotchya, so is it basically, "so long as you can't see it for inspection, do what you want/need to to make the costume work"? like I keep saying, i just don't wanna do something that's semi-permanent, and then find out it needs to be undone and I wind up doing damage..
  2. LOL, fair enough, but at least there's a lot of you TK types around to bounce ideas off of.. I just only want to do the set up once, not do it how i THINK is right, submit it and find out I did it wrong and have to figure out how to undo it without messing anything up..
  3. hey everyone, so I feel like this would probably be a situation solved in like 20 minutes at an armor group meeting, but with COVID, I doubt we'll be having one for a while.. I need some help setting up my Revan kit. Wicked Armor customer service has been great, but since the 501st approves costumes, not them, I figured I'd ask here.. Their instructions are almost all text and I'm a little unclear on some things, so any help is greatly appreciated! My kit came missing the 3/4" webbing on the chest plate, so I emailed them and they sent some out to me. Their directions say to "Wrap 3/4' web around your hips and buckle to the other side" but they sent me a buckle with a 2" lead on one end and about a 12" section of web for the other side.. I'm a skinny dude, but there is no way that's going to wrap around my waist.. I'm guessing it attaches to the kidney armor and holds that closed? Could I run a section of web through the INSIDE (the part against my body and not visible to viewers) of the loops holding the metal rings? Also, their instructions are clear that I should NOT attach the ring straps to the leather on the back plate, but if I avoid the leather, they wind up almost parallel to the ground, or almost vertical.. am I not understanding something? The CRL says they should slope at a downward angle, but I don't think it means that steep of an angle.. and I can't seem to find pics with the cape lifted so i can see others.. Lastly (so far..), Like I said above, I'm a skinny dude.. When I snug the chest/back plates together, the side pieces overlap just a tiny bit, but not enough to stay in position.. the back plate winds up poking out from the front, do you guys just put a velcro dot on the top there to hold it in place? or is there a better solution? I know I have a problem overthinking things and nuking the hell out of them, but I wish the instructions for final sizing included pictures of the process.. The kit looks like great quality, and their customer service has been fantastic so far, I just feel like better documentation isn't too much to ask considering the cost.. maybe I'm just a whiner? Thanks in advance!
  4. finally back on track! in my over eagerness to get my kit approved, I made a straight up rookie mistake and like a complete fool, didn't pay close attention to my iron when I tried to remove the wrinkles from the red center sash.. I would up removing a section of red fabric because the iron was turned up WAAY to hot.. I e-mailed Wicked Armor and inquired about commissioning just that one piece, and they sent me out a new one with no problems It arrived today, along with a small web belt and clip that was forgotten during the initial construction of the chest pieces, so now I can start trying to rope my Wife into helping size and fit everything so I can finally get the photos I promised to send last month out for approval..
  5. kit arrived today! put most of it on almost immediately just because.. haha Have to wait until the Wifey gets home from work so she can help me with the final fitting/sizing and whatnot, Gonna post in a seperate thread if any other Revans have hints/tips/"wish I woulda knowns" for final sizing.. But in the meantime, I carved the styrofoam and put fabric down in my kit box to hold/display the mask
  6. Just got an e-mail from Wicked Armor... my kit is packaged for shipping, estimates arriving on Wednesday!
  7. got my boots back from the leather shop, now just need to add some grey distressing.. and also placed my order today for a Wicked Armor Revan V2 kit The WA Etsy page says to expect delivery between mid-November and early December.. Given current nationwide delays and whatnot, I'm anticipating mid-December, but if it shows up earlier, all the better!
  8. so I don't really see an area for "build progress" or anything like that, so I'm gonna keep using my intro thread... bought some boots off of eBay, they're currently at a local leather shop getting the top strap added, but they look almost exactly like the CRL photo so I'm confident they will pass muster.. been talking with the wife and I think I'm gonna pull the trigger on a Wicked Armor Revan V.2 set up in the next week or so.. Advertised ship time is 4-6 weeks, so I'm guessing 8-12 weeks is more likely with the current climate and world, so hopefully i'll be able to participate in events as a costumed Darth Revan and not just a wrangler around the holidays
  9. we sold it late last year, these are all the pics I still had on my phone.. https://imgur.com/a/Nqt0xER
  10. If I wasn't going to be entertaining my parents and brother from NorCal that weekend, i'd totally be down to supply some snacks and beverages for this meeting Hopefully I can attend the next one..
  11. Awesome! I PCSed here in February from Fort Meade in Maryland.. This is my second time being stationed in SD but first time stationed here as an MM.. I'm pre-comming one of the new LCS ships.
  12. Welcome! I'm currently a gopher/on the spot fixit guy.. only been to one event but hoping to be more involved! I'm saving for a DR of my own right now.. Only in SD for a year from Washington.. are you a Sailor or a contractor with the yards? I'm a Sailor stationed down here for the next 6 to 7 years.
  13. @PunkRocketScience I see there's a driveby event for this upcoming saturday.. I can't imagine you need much help from non-costumed people, but depending on time and actual location, I can probably be available
  14. Should be visible here.. It's very subtle and I think you'd have to be handling the saber/looking for deviations to notice it. but if it's not allowed I get it.. It's easily reversable, I just removed the allen set screw and put this fan lamp shade screw in instead.. https://imgur.com/a/15XUwoz
  15. lol, so i just happened to look up and notice the tiny screws that hold cieling fan lamp shade things in place.... what do you know... it's a perfect thread pitch/size match! It's very subtle and from what I understand sabers aren't really scrutinized much for costume consideration.. what do you all think?
  16. I searched for "ultrasabers" (0 results) and "ultra sabers" (5 results) and didn't see what I was looking for, so I apologize if this has been covered before.. I just got my first saber this week, and I totally get that the set screw used to hold the blade in place is designed to be subtle and hidden (and offer U.S. an opportunity to charge you $5 for an allen wrench ) but I was wondering if anyone has replaced that set screw with a small knurled knob screw? would that invalidate it as a 501st weapon? anyone know where to source such screws? for reference, this is what I'm talking about: I figure if i can find one with a very tiny head, that matches the thread and pitch of the existing screw, it would be a LOT easier than trying not to lose a tiny allen in costume.. the other idea I was wondering about is how come they don't make the blades similar to vehicle bulbs? either notch the blade itself and put two pegs in the hilt, so the blade slides in and twists to lock into place, or notch the hilt and put two protrusions on the blade to slide in and lock into place.. Have either of these been tried and proven to fail or am i embarking in undiscovered terriroty?
  17. Thanks! I don't know how much "progress" there will be since I'm "cheating" and buying my costume instead of making it, but i'll post pics of things as they arrive. Do I put that in this thread to keep things from getting cluttered or is there a specific place for people to put progress or bio threads? I'll definitely let someone know if I need help and I can't find it by searching I would need general 501st approval before getting localized ISG approval right? My forum access is still pending for the 501st, and since I don't currently have a costume to be inspected, i'm assuming I won't be accepted fully until then.. I'm definitely down to help with events so long as my schedule permits. I'll keep an eye on the calendar for things! Thanks! I have a 1972 VW Beetle that I've owned since 2002 http://imgur.com/gallery/7L2Mf1w and just recently inherited a 1960 Ford F100 https://imgur.com/gallery/eJCpAJH As far as we know, the pickup was purchased by my wife's grandfather. he mother owned it for a few decades, but she can't drive anymore, so we took possession of it Last year we sold a 1980 Datsun 280zx which was originally purchased by my wife's aunt, we took it when she passe because our daughter had just turned 16 and no one else in the family wanted it.. she drove it for a few years, but it was ALL original (down tot he factory 8-track player ), so it was hitting the point where it needed more time/money/work than we had available so we sold it before it totally died..
  18. New to costuming, in the process of saving to buy my kit.. I'm just your average guy, wife, daughter, dogs, cat, the usual.. Normally I throw money at my project cars, but have always been interested in costuming and finally getting off my butt about it.. For my cars I'm big on "built, not bought.." but I will admit freely I'm going the lazy route for this because I want it to look good.. I'm hoping to be another Darth Revan addition. Got a Butcher in the mail yesterday, placed the order for my Savior today, and hope to be commissioning a costume from Wicked Armor within the next couple of months. Anyway, not sure how much I should be putting in here and how much to save for later. Feel free to ask me questions because I'm sure I'm gonna have some for you all! :)
