  1. We would love to have another biker scout in our ranks! (I’m biased, I’m a scout myself). :D
Good luck with the build and please get the Pathfinders detachment involved sooner rather than later before you put in a lot effort on certain pieces - most of us use vacuformed armor produced by known suppliers where accuracy level is already known. This can be more challenging with 3D printing when the designer may or may not have designed pieces with enough accuracy to meet 501st standards.
Looking forward to seeing your progress.

  2. Welcome Stevan! You’ve chosen the best costume of the Empire!!
We have connected on FB already, feel free to post any pics & progress for ongoing feedback so we can get you set up to zoom like a speederbike right on through the application process.

  3. Hello Izzy and welcome!  TIE Pilots are awesome.  Although I might be biased, as you can tell from my profile pic ;-)  TIE Pilots really are a great costume, they offer the comfort of a jumpsuit and minimal armor, yet that helmet is so fascinating and intimdating!

Your research is correct, costumes are grouped into detachments who form the experts in that costume, and the TIE Pilot costumes are in the detachment known as the Jolly Roger Squadron found at https://jrs501st.com/.  The members there will have the most expertise and guidance for the TIE Pilot costumes, and specifically can guide you with any particular recommended sources for various components.  Sometimes vendors may do good work but might actually be blacklisted or not recommended for a variety of reasons, such as not delivering timely or other issues that arise, so it's definitely best to run the vendors you're considering past the members there.

Also, please note that no costume can be claimed to be "501st approved", as getting a costume approved in the 501st not only relies on the quality & accuracy of the costume, but also on how it's tailored/built to fit your own body type.

There is Facebook group I joined that has been helpful, called TIE Fighter Pilot Armor Build Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/577666115922168.  It's not officially 501st but most of the participants seem to be 501st members.  I recall Jason at Intergalactic Supply has been mentioned frequently as a recommended vendor.  https://www.facebook.com/IntergalacticSupply.  Another typically recommended vendor is Walt's Trooper Factory https://www.facebook.com/WaltsTrooperFactory@Balue @Christina your TIE armor kits are Walt's, aren't they?

Another vendor is Pilot Bay, they are a husband and wife duo in Long Beach who are both 501st & Rebel Legion members, who create all soft parts & hard parts for TIEs and X-Wing pilots. https://www.facebook.com/pilotbay369

One of the Etsy vendors you are considering is MonCal, also known as Far Away Creations.  He has been around a while in the Star Wars costuming, my TIE Pilot hard armor parts were made by him actually.  I know 2 to 3 years ago he was V-E-R-Y slow at delivering -- reports of 2 years instead of 12 weeks.  Last year I know he had turned things around considerably and was only selling once he had something produced, so definitely read up on his Etsy reviews & on the forums & FB pages.

So please feel free to take a look at those sources and please review past topics or even ask on FB or on the JRS forums for recent recommendations - you never know when vendors may change their reliability or quality.

I hope that's not too much info, and not too overwhelming.  Please check those links & resources and come on back with any further questions!

  4. Ok I have signed up. Now what? Saturday the 8th after 5:00 or Sunday the 9th anytime would work great. But open to suggestions

We do have a couple troops that day on the 8th, including a blood donation event followed by a group lunch after, and a bookstore opening.
  5. Welcome to the Legion, David, I look forward to meeting you and trooping with you! You're certainly welcome to Wrangle an event before suiting up for one if you would like to get a feel for an event. We have a lot of events this month, feel free to sign up for any of them that you'd like to participate in.
Definitely attend this month's armor party if you can, we usually have a meeting at 12pm or 1pm to provide members with an update on things.
Your Boba looks awesome, well done!!

  6. I came across this fantastic deal from SC, which is the armor I have. August 2019 special -- free assembly!  :gasp: Normally a trimmed kit is $470 (even when I bought it over 4 years ago) but they are currently selling it *assembled* for the same price.
With Helmet, add $200 - assembled!! (Normally the helmet kit is $284 unassembled plus $200 assembly)
    • includes shipping
    • 60-day production time

The vendor is definitely one of the very best in the costuming hobby, with fantastic product, communication, and delivery.
You'll need to obtain/create the soft parts of the costume separately to complete it for approval (flight suit, vest, balaclava, boots, bund, pouches, gloves).
I have no stake in this, I don't get a cut, I don't know the guy personally -- just sharing this awesome deal! (and because scouts are awesome)

Bring your scout! I'd be happy to take a look at your kit to see if any adjustments are needed before submitting for approval.

  8. Hey everybody,

I used to be quite active with pacific outpost over on Oahu a few years ago, however with life getting busy since I moved back to the Mainland here in San Diego, I haven't really been that active and I am looking to get a new home for my scout with all armor (cumberbund and all soft pieces) including a hard rolling case with the armor. Feel free to give me a call anytime to talk about it my cell is 619-876-6008

You should come out for some events! We have a small number of scouts but more have been getting approved lately and we'd love to have you join us!

Do you have any other costumes remaining to troop in, or are you hanging up the entire membership?

If you're still focused on selling the scout, I suggest adding pictures and your measurements so people can get a better idea of it.
