Update: Everything should arrive tomorrow; I'll start doing the basic wiring and testing this weekend!

    Neat!

now, will we need mikes/amplifiers for these gloves?

    If yes, recommendations?

I already have a newton amp, which I love -- but I'll admit it is over powered and huge, not to mention it can blast people's helmets off if I turn the volume all the way up...

Hi Lesley.  Tapatalk for this forum isn't working. Or maybe it's just me.

Hiya!  Aye, we’re aware of the problem.  We upgraded the IPB software this week that runs the forums for some security issues that we’ve been having with hacking attempts, and tapatalk is not caught up to the new upgrade yet, so it’s not interfacing well with the program.

For now, it’s best to use your mobile browser until the Tapatalk upgrade is released.

Howdy everyone! Name is Ryan Clifford (SG-082), I'm formerly the local director of Saber Guild's Golden Gate Temple in the SF bay area. My family and I just moved to Chula Vista a couple weeks ago, and I'm looking to reach out to the other clubs in hopes of building a Saber Guild temple down here in the near future.

Hi there Ryan!  Welcome to San Diego!

Have you reached out to Robb Yanagihara yet, he's the primary contact for Saber Guild in the Southern California region.  He's your best start.

  5. Okay @DaygoErm

My hood--it was cut 20 inches wide, 40 inches long--the fabric folds to be a 20 x 20 square.  The seam goes down the back.  Because I have a fairly small noggin, I did shape mine a little so that its not so wide across the face, but kept the roominess in the back/sides.  So in comparing our measurements--my hood is about 4 inches deeper across the top, and about 3 inches in length from the top of the hood to the neck.

Like I said, I use the feather weight boning--and it keeps the round shape really well--I didn't pose that for the picture, its just the way the hood lays!

This is the diagram I followed. How much bigger is yours? 784b22cb79a344a41ecbe970e14183ca.jpg

I also added an extra strip from my tk to get the stiffness of the curve on the hood.

I will measure mine tonight for you!  I have to pack for a troop tomorrow anyway.  :D

Looking good so far Ermer!  A couple of notes...  You are going to want to get the black fabric pulled tighter to the back.  Big wrinkles in the fabric don't look right.  The original masks were smooth and covered with gaffer's tape.

Love the orange of the eyes!  Might have to make a set with the Tamiya paint!  Am I seeing the white of  the base portions around the connection?  Those need to be blackened in if so.

DOH, I never even did that with the eyes (black bases).  Of course--mine likely had a lot of yellow overpaint/over spray so it wasn't noticed.  Good idea tho.

And yep--on the fabric, I put a series of darts in at the top of the mask, where it isn't seen and covered by the hood to tighten the fabric and sewed them down by hand.

  8. Actually the boning seems to work pretty well, from the pictures.

You can use strong struff like wire or coax cable, but the thing about that is they've got sharper ends and no matter how you cushion them--eventually they poke through the fabric and will ruin the hood.  I used to use thick copper wire, and I can't tell you how many times my old hood was patched because of it!

I would indeed go bigger on the hood.  --its supposed to be somewhat loose and baggy so that it covers the back of the neck.

If you look at this pic of Todd in his new Jawa from the ACS walk, you can see how loose his is.

Also this is Wendy in hers:

The ties are meant to pull the hood together in the front and then you let them drift down your back, like this CRL example--don't wind them around your neck.

I’m going to bring one batch of fabric. Can you just show me how to measure and sew? Then I can work on rest at home. Thanks!

    Yep!  That's easy.

If you have them, bring a measuring tape, your best fabric scissors, and pins.
