  1. I've got photos of the inside (Todd has the helmet, I left it with him at the AP).  I'm just not seeing one like it anywhere online for sale.  Might check Wally world.  It looks like something you would have had in high school or something.  I like the sturdiness of it though.

Maybe I'm overthinking it because I can't see the outside and the padding is removed.

  2. Getting ready to get back into this and wondering...what should I use for the helmet back?  I've seen some with a hard hat, and I can get them easily enough.  But the speed build from Leslie had a baseball helmet I think.  There was some sort of sport helmet in there.  What was it, and where can I find one?  I went to a second hand sports store today and they had something crazy for $25.  At that price, I might as well get new.

  3. I think I’m about done! All that’s left is weathering so it’s good Leslie just posted that because I’m clueless.

I’ll take photos of what I have on Halloween at work. Then, if I could get a hand weathering at the next armor party, and Todd gives the thumbs up, I’ll submit.

I have no paints for weathering but I can pick up something. I’m sure I’ve got WD-40. And shoe polish is everywhere.

  4. No protective layer.  Each vendor has their own source for ABS.  Some have different thickness, others are more flexible (for example, Walt's Trooper Factory has run over parts of his kit with a car and other than dirt, it went right back to shape) it all depends.  Plus it could just be the light on my workdesk.

I couldn't attend that party as I was out of town. :( What's the best way to keep up to date with the parties?

Just like you said, keep the forum up on an open tab in your browser.  We post on here when the next Build Party is so everyone can find it.

  6. Hi Sky and welcome! If you look at the pinned post on this forum, it goes over everything you need to know about submission.

In a nutshell, you’ll submit your application through the 501st website then email the GML photos of you in your costume.

Also consider coming to the Armor Build Party this Sunday where we can look over your costume and if needed, point out corrections that may need to be made before you submit. That helps increase your chances of being approved on the first try.

  7. Happy to help where I can!  Look around the forums.  Our next Armor Build Party is July 8.  I'm planning to be there and working on my new TK as well.  I've helped build an Anovos kit before.  It looks more intimidating than it really is.

  8. Got a little bit of work done. Took Scott’s advise and went with they nylon snap plates.

Took a little off the top return edge on the ab plate. Just too much there and it was digging in. Plus, it’ll never be seen.

    And shaped the cod.

Then I removed the return edge from the wrist on the forearms.

I’m starting by making it even at the elbow because with no return edge at the wrist and the inside being longer, I can always trim the wrist as needed.

And with a quick test fit, I can’t believe the size of this thing! Flipping huge. One thing I noticed, it doesn’t have the ridge to place the cover strips so you kinda have to eyeball it and make sure your cover strips are spaced evenly to cover.

Next up I’ll hopefully trim the forearms, the kidney, and butt. Maybe even do some more gluing.

  9. No clue. There is no costume that uses them. Sandtroopers don't have external plastic shoulder straps, so they're not for a Sandie kit. Maybe they are meant to go under the ridged straps for reinforcement?

If that’s the case I won’t be using them. This plastic seems even thicker than the ATA. I don’t see the need and honesty, I don’t think it’ll look right.
